You put that info dump about jockeys in the tags of the info dump post, but oh my stars do I need you to write an actual post about it if you have the time! Or if you've already done that, point me in the direction of where I can find it, because dude, am I invested now!!!!
Oh I can go on about jockeys forever. Let’s do a crash (ha) course while dressing my jockey OC, Killie. Killie is an Irish-British racing jockey over the flat AND jumps, operating in the UK.

NOTE TW below the cut for injuries, weight talk and references to disordered eating, because, regrettably: professional horse jockeys. Infuriating people.

We start with Killie’s fairly battered and frankly very tiny body. At 4’10” Killie is comfortably at the bottom range of jockeys, who usually range from 4’10 to 5’7”. There’s no height limit; there is a weight limit. A naturally small man at about 118 lbs of fairly fit racing weight, Killie is in condition to race on the flat in the UK without too much starvation, dehydration, and substance abuse those are just his hobbies. Jockeys and their gear are weighed before and after each race. Weight limits for jockeys include their body, personal gear, riding gear and safety equipment.
Flat jockeys - who race horses on a plain circular track, like the Kentucky Derby - must be lighter and smaller than jump jockeys. In the USA, flat jockeys tend to be about 118 lbs, the weight of a potential Kentucky Derby competitor. In the UK, flat jockeys and their gear can now go up to 142 lbs, thanks to increased welfare standards; this includes the 3lb allowance for the body protector that UK jockeys must wear as of 2018, and, as of 2013, Flat jockeys in the UK can now have an additional 1 lb of allowance for warm clothing in winter.
Jump jockeys, who race in steeplechases (USA) like the Grand National (UK) aka races with jumps - are allowed to be slightly heavier, and often taller with it, as their sport requires even more strength and stamina.
Jockeys have to be able to maintain ~118 lbs of very fit, fighting-quality muscle, every day of the week. Thus, most jockeys are short, averaging 5’2” in a sport dominated by men, because that’s the cost of packing on enough muscle for the required strength/stamina. add in excellent horsemanship, high pain tolerance, lack of natural fear/truly bonkers physical courage, the ability to go for days without food and other pleasures of life, an ongoing commitment to fitness, excellent mental arithmetic/timekeeping skills, and the ability to tolerate abysmal working conditions, to understand why most short people aren’t immediately natural jockeys. Taller jockeys are becoming ever more common, as the conditions that shaped the historically legendary small jockeys (enslavement/slaver starvation, concentration camps/Nazi starvation, birth complication/premature birth, bad nutrition) are thankfully becoming far less common. This is in turn driving pushes towards higher weight limits, which can only be a good thing.
Why aren’t jockeys all little people? Because it isn’t just about being small - it’s more important to be light and strong. Jockeys generally don’t have medical conditions underpinning their size, and are not generally considered part of the little people community, although their size may overlap with little people. It’s important to repeat that the working conditions of jockeys are still bad; they're a loose collection of freelancers who very rarely become contractors, they don’t bargain collectively, have nominal professional associations, and have 500 years of absurdly feudal working conditions to battle. Little people who are motivated to handle horses could have a comparable time - and genuine union protection! and fans! and visibility! and benefits! and safety coordinators! and less substance abuse! And clothing! - by working as stunt actors. Jockeys just have a shitty job, so when we ask why marginalised people don’t dominate the field, we have to look at working conditions.
Why don’t more women (who tend to be a bit smaller statistically) go into racing? Some of it is historical sexism, but again, the working conditions. Female jockeys have raced throughout history, and are active today. Men and women compete equally in horse racing without any gender segregation or handicap (or even different clothing) and with no statistical difference in performance. Of course, male and female horses also compete alongside each other, for what it’s worth! equestrian sports are generally refreshingly free of TERF nonsense about Masculinity Being An Advantage (it isn’t, in human or horse.) but again, it isn’t a choice career for people with better options, so to improve diversity/inclusivity the working conditions should be addressed first, not the other way around.
Also note: horse racing is declining in popularity. With its preferred audiences traditionally being "stupidly posh aristocrats who wear alarming fascinators" and "conservative working-class old men who shout at TVs in sports bars," with a side order of "sketchy gambling-addicted weirdos," the sport doesn't really appeal to, for example, Tumblr users. Millennial-and-younger generations basically just ignore the whole industry. Most people can't name a single racing jockey; people could maybe name Secretariat, one of the most famous named animals in history, who had a film about him.
At any rate, Killie comes by his frame honestly - he is just generationally tiny and lanky, from a family of jockeys.
Killie starts his outfit in “jockey” briefs and a very lightweight high-neck top. Remember that the carry weight of his gear comes out of his weight allowance, which also includes his own body and riding equipment, so he’s wearing a lightweight mesh skivvy, even in cold weather.
The terminology of jockey briefs and the Jockey underwear brand come from horse racing. "Jockey" comes from the British/Scottish word "jock," for a young boy; jockey being a diminutive of this. The phrase "jock" as in "sportsman, opposite of nerd" in the USA comes from "jockstrap", which is apparently a completely separate underwear-related sporting etymology.
Men and women wear the same clothes, which are sold to everyone equally; there aren’t “girl versions” for racing gear, just heavy or lightweight gear. Women usually add a sports bra, and men have personal preferences for briefs to keep things contained. However, anecdotally, some women race in 'men’s' underwear - and some male jockeys wear 'women’s' underwear to keep gear weight down - so whatever. Pantyhose can be worn to prevent chafing, add a vague layer of warmth, fight the see-through effect of racing breeches, and are a compromise for socks, which would add unnecessary weight.
If there was a reason to leave off his base layer, Killie could cheat by wearing a neck wrap - basically a high collar with a bib that would make it LOOK like he was wearing something under his silks.

Today, in the UK and Australia, jockeys wear body protectors! These are fairly new to the sport and aren’t even remotely universal in the USA. Body protectors can shield the spine, lungs and heart from falls, kicks, and crush injuries.
Killie has also added his high-waisted racing breeches. These are basically-see-through polyester breeches of unbelievable thinness and lightness. Unlike normal riding breeches/jodhpurs, they don’t offer much at all in the way of comfort/grip/protection.
Pull-ups are a kind of tight compression tube that bridge the breeches/boots gap, preventing chafing and making sure that breeches taper into the boot.

Time for silks!
Silks, or racing colours, are colourful high-necked thin jackets that are buttoned over the body protector and tucked into the breeches. Silks represent the owner of the racehorse, for example the Queen of England or Godolphin Stables. Jockeys don’t own racehorses or own/choose silks.
Killie is a licensed jockey under contract to a stable - a highly desirable position. this means that he has HIS OWN PERSONAL SILKS, which actually fit him on purpose. He also knows the horses he rides. This is a very rare and comfortable post - the gold standard for champion jockeys, and what everyone in the profession is desperately hoping for.
Most everyday jobbing jockeys are paid £100 per ride, plus a cut of the purse if they win (but most jockeys in a race necessarily don’t win.) jobbing jockeys are chosen by racehorse owners like itinerant labourers or puppies from a box. Jockeys compete desperately to be offered the best mounts. The owners’ silks are kept in a changing room and when a jockey is chosen by an owner to ride a particular horse, they are handed the owner’s silks to put on over their base layer. These silks are unisex and one-size-fits-all, so jockeys tuck them into breeches to hide when they’re too large, and small jockeys use hair elastics to roll back and secure the sleeves.
People have a vague idea from heartwarming movies that the racehorse, owner, trainer and jockey are familiar with each other - perhaps they have a beautiful relationship. It’s important to remember the real pecking order here: the owner is usually a billionaire or royalty. The racehorse is usually a valuable, highly-bred animal with a proper dollar value on it, which the billionaire loves as an extension of their own wealth and power and beauty and influence. And the jockey is a sort of disposable starving dog that talks, which you graciously choose from the pack, based on their stats, like someone picking a Mario Kart, and assign to make your horsey win. Sometimes “just before the race” is the first time the jockey even touches the horse they’re about to ride! At any rate, the patterned jacket is chucked at the jockey to button on over their clothes(unless they’re Killie and have their own.) They also stretch a thin flexible matching cover over their helmet.
The design of the silks is ancient in intention; everyone can intuit that it’s resonant with medieval alliances and heraldry and tournaments, and the wearing of colours facilitates your ability pick out “your” mounted knight from a scrum of other screaming horses and bodies. Today they help commentators and the audience to see their horses. All silks must be unique, with colour/design/pattern being registered in databases. You can play with the British Horseracing Authority's silks database to see whether your design of silks would be available!
Killie is wearing his racing boots. They're flexible, made of very leather, with practically no sole, and weigh less than half a pound.

Killie wears racing gloves - these are optional, and often fingerless since jockeys like to feel the reins. He also has goggles. Jockeys usually take multiple pairs, perched on their helmet and pulled down in turn. You can have tinted ones for sun/rain, but they’re most important for keeping mud and stones out of your eyes at 40mph. They’re very lightweight, and when they become too dirty to see through, you pull them down to hang around your neck and then pull down the next pair over your eyes. here's jockey Gary Stevens after a muddy race with several pairs of goggles pulled down.
Killie's got his helmet, so now he's dressed. He needs to add his gear. Again, the jockey's body and their gear are part of the same weight allowance; a lighter jockey can have heavier gear. Here is UK jockey Hollie Doyle showing hers:
Interestingly, the weight of the saddle (plus stirrups, girth, and lead cloth) belongs in the jockey's weight allowance. (The racehorse brings its own bridle and saddlecloth.) Hollie is shown here with multiple saddles - for various riding conditions, weights, etc. Racing saddles only weigh about 1-2 pounds - contrasted with the 20lb of a normal English riding saddle - and are basically a strap that the stirrups hang from, since jockeys mostly stand up to ride.
This concludes "Getting Cillian Dressed, the Awkward Little Sod That He Is." Thank you so much for joining me and prompting this.
Appendix:
I depict Killie as a lightly bruised skeleton wrapped in a thin layer of mental problems, with the temperament of an unloved stray dog. This is not a nice state for a fellow to live in, so if I were to give him a happy ending, I would like Killie to age into a sort of healthy, roguish Franny Norton type (Franny, below, is the older jockey in white base layer. He raced for over 30 years and retired in 2024.) So if Killie were to be developed as a character, he would be poised for having some kind of fictional redemption arc that aligns with the overall improvement of working conditions for jockeys in 2025 and the potential redemption arc of his whole profession. it is possible, and increasingly less rare, for jockeys to be More Normal than Killie - as they very much should be!! the take-home message here should be that the profession has the potential to improve and may even do so. Emphasis on jockey and racehorse welfare would only help.

also i lovelovelove your writing
Feel Better In Your Skin | Lando Norris X Trans!Driver!Reader
ʚɞ featuring: Lando Norris
Oscar Piastri, Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz (platonic )
ʚɞ it’s winter break, you’ve just gotten your top surgery and it’s up to Lando to take care of you
ʚɞ I got you!! I’m glad you’re liking my writing so far aha I’ve written on different platforms like ao3 before but I found that wasn’t really tailored to “__ x readers” as well as “__ x __” so here I am.
I read the ask wrong at first lol and started writing trans Lando so ended up having to change that all half way through. I wasn’t sure if you were wanting more focus for like paddock stuff so if you do just lmk I’d be happy to write another with more focus on that or just a part 2 to this one
Anyway hope you enjoy this one too!
ʚɞ warnings: mentions of dried blood and incisions obviously, very brief mention high from pain meds, surgery mentioned obvs, y/n used, not proofread
ʚɞ wordcount: 2.4K
ʚɞ requests are open!

Lando heard you groan as he helped the you into bed. Carefully lying you down, setting a pregnancy pillow under you arms and tucked you in. “Arms in or out, baby?” He asked softly, hand running through your hair, brushing it away from your forehead.
You couldn’t stop the whine that slipped past chapped lips. Still a smidge high on the pain killers they’d given before you’d been discharged from your double mastectomy. “Messin’ up my hair..” you grumbled, pout set on your face. “Out please.” You answered Lando after a moment of realisation that he’d asked you a question.
Nodding softly with a small chuckle, he set the blanket under your arms, pressing a kiss to your forehead. “Anything you need, handsome?” The man spoke, moving to carefully sit beside you on his empty side of the bed. Lando would be taking the sofa in the main room of your B&B while you slept, not wanting to hurt his boyfriend anymore than he’d already been. You had tried to insist the day before surgery that you’d take it. He insisted that you rest in a comfortable setting.
You hummed slightly when you felt a soft hand rest on your cheek, turning into the palm and closed your eyes. Heat warming the skin that had been nipped by a winter breeze. Having traveled from Monaco back to the UK for your surgery. Lando knew you’d had you heart set on a particular surgeon since you were eighteen. And now, at twenty three he’d managed pay to get you surgery putting you on his last ever waiting list just before the surgeon was to go into retirement. He’d given you the news as a birthday present. Of which you were immensely grateful for.
He hadn’t been too keen on the idea of flying back with you after quite an invasive surgery. But he knew this was your body. You’d have to live with the scars. And Lando wanted nothing more than for you to feel confident. For once in your life feel confident in who you were. In your skin. Wear clothes you wanted to wear when you wanted them. Not in accordance of whether it hid your binder or not. Not have to worry about cameras getting side on shots of your body, chest visible unable to bind while racing.
“Hurts..” Lando heard you speak, clearly wanting more for the pain. Snapping him from the immense surge of proudness that welled in his chest. You watched your boyfriend carefully. How he pulled out his phone, how a frown settled on his oh so perfect face, how he sighed. That sigh really didn’t sound good.
“I’m sorry baby..” he spoke softly, adjusting a few pillows behind you and pressed a kiss to your forehead. “I can’t give you any ibuprofen just yet.. gotta wait another hour first. Okay?”
Reluctantly, you nodded. With a smile, Lando rose from the bed, fixing the covers and set the remote for the TV into your hand. “Put on whatever you’d like, my love. I’m gonna order us some food.”

mercedesamgf1 Looking forward to working with you this season! Wishing you a speedy recovery!
———————————
“Oh my god this fucking sucks” you groaned out, eyes screwed shut. It felt like the drains were cutting into your sides. They hurt more than the fucking incisions stretched across your chest.
“I know baby..” Lando frowned softly, moving to sit beside you again and pressed a kiss to your temple. He didn’t really know. Not truly. He knew that. He didn’t know how the pain was, he just knew you were in pain. And if he could do something about that, he would. “Not long now though.. hopefully get them out tomorrow.”
The two of you were cutting it fine in regards to the 2025 season. You were both due at Bahrain for the three days of pre-season testing (although you weren’t exactly excited about their twisted laws for LGBT individuals). Due there the 25th of February, testing starting the 26th and finishing on the 28th. At that point you would be four and a half weeks healed. You’d practically have to beg the surgeon tomorrow to give you a letter saying you could take part.
Then, a two week break. Season opening in Australia on the 16th March. At which you’d be six and a half weeks. In theory, fully healed. But it could take anywhere from 6-8.
“What you thinkin’ about, love?” Lando looked to you, arm wrapping carefully around your shoulders.
“Who said I was thinking about anything?” You shot back with a smile, meeting his gaze and carefully placed your head to his shoulder.
“You were sticking your tongue out.”
“Traitor..” you muttered to it.

———————————
You were sat in the surgeons office the next day, leg bouncing against the floor, hand holding onto the inside of Lando’s thigh for comfort. Your head was spinning. You were drowning. Drowning in endless possibilities and all bad. What if you didn’t like it? What if you decided you preferred yourself before? What if you weren’t really trans? What if you’d picked the wrong surgeon and ultimately it looked awful? What if your nipples had fallen off? What if-
“Y/n, breathe..” Lando spoke softly, one hand moving to rest on top of yours that was holding his thigh and the other moving to rub your own. “You’re panicking, love.”
You turned to face him caught like a deer in headlights. Your tongue fell flat in your mouth as your mind scrambled to find words. Piece together some remnants of a sentence. Lando didn’t rush you, didn’t disrespect you, didn’t roll his eyes or get angry. Instead, he let you take your time. Let you organise your mind. Removing your hand from his thigh just for a moment to place a kiss to the back of it before letting you set it back down wherever you chose. You decided to just leave it in the same spot.
Eventually, you spoke up. “What if I regret it..” you whispered, voice cracking slightly.
You watched as Lando opened his mouth to speak. Cut off by the surgeon that entered. “Right! Let’s get this show on the road.” The man spoke, heading to the chair in the middle of the room. “Come sit on this chair for me.”
You didn’t move at first, watching as he went to wash his hands. Only as the surgeon started to slip his gloves on did you stand, Lando helping you to undo the buttons on your shirt and slipped it from your back. Leaving you looking to a bare stomach and bandaged chest.
With hesitant feet, you silently moved to the chair, sitting on it with your eyes fixed to Lando. Refusing to look to your chest or the mirror in the corner of the room as the surgeon got to work unraveling bandages.
You caught glimpses of dried blood as he began to pull gauze away, swallowing thickly as he removed the ones covering your nipples only to find that they weren’t on the fabric. You let out a breath you didn’t know you’d been holding, shoulders relaxing some.
Then came the drains. They weren’t so bad, a slight nip to begin with as the surgeon pulled out stitches holding them in place. But other than that it just felt weird. Like how you’d imagine sucking a noodle through a lip piercing would feel like when a video came up on your for you page once. You’d quickly blocked that user for the sake of your own sanity. Not malicious intent, it just freaked you out and you did not want to risk them coming back onto your fyp again.
“Alright, we’re all done.” The man spoke, stepping back to take a look at his work. Your own eyes gaze still fixed to Lando. “I’ll leave you two alone to look. But it all looks good and healthy to me.” You heard the snap of gloves coming off, the squeak and then clatter of a bin opening and closing. The surgeon walking into your view to leave the room.
Lando frowned when you didn’t turn to look. Standing, he moved to lock the door, then made his way to you. Crouching beside you. “You look gorgeous, baby..” Lando whispered as he took your hand and held it to his own cheek pressing a kiss to the palm of it. “Do you want a photo of it first, babe?” He asked softly, seemingly able to read you like an open book as you nodded slowly.
As Lando stood, he set your hand back into your lap. He stopped the recording, taking a few steps back at the front of the chair and took a photo. After making sure it wasn’t blurry, he headed back to you reassuming his crouched position and turned the screen to you. “Here..”
With both hands, you carefully took the device. Eyes scanning the photo meticulously looking for any mistakes. Any dog ears, any infections, anything that didn’t look like it should be there. But instead all you found was some light bruising and scabs along your incisions. All perfectly normal. All.. perfect.
“You want to look in the mirror?” He asked softly, watching you nod. With a smile, Lando helped you to stand so you wouldn’t stretch the incisions. Hanging back as you moved to the mirror. Setting the phone up where you’d just sat to continue recording.
Like the photo, your eyes scanned the reflection in the mirror. Left to right, down, right to left, down, left to right. Finding nothing again. You felt emotions bubbling in your chest, but it was when you turned to the side that your works burst. You were flat. A bit swollen and bruised. But you were flat. Holy shit.
You looked to Lando in the mirror. The man holding the biggest grin he could and you were sure he didn’t even realise it. Slowly, you turned to him as a sob was pulled from your throat, moving to hide in your boyfriend’s shoulder while he wrapped his arms around you. The feeling of his arms wrapped against your bare skin, his chest flush against yours without anything in the way caused you to cry harder. Legs weak and shaky but you remained standing.
Lando had a feeling he’d be getting a lot more hugs from you.
After the surgeon showed both you and Lando how to properly tape the sutures and cover your nipples, he gave you scar cream and you were under strict instructions to keep your chest dry. Only rinse after the testing sessions to get rid of any sweat and pat dry with paper towels. He then handed you a letter which you’d take a photo of and send to Toto when you got home. Basically stating you had the all clear.
The drive home was a slow one. Purposefully. After a week in bed you wanted to get outside. So, despite not having showered in a week that was exactly what the two of you done. You broke your strict diet, had Tim Hortons, coffee, a donut and just drove around town taking the long route back to the air B&B.
Once back, Lando ran you a bath, helping you inside and began to was you carefully. You made sure to keep the waterline below your surgery. Letting Lando press kisses to your face, head, shoulder, neck, hands. Wherever he could. Making sure you knew he loved you. He was here. He wasn’t leaving. He wanted to help. Then came the difficult part, washing your hair. Lando helped you to dry off and change first into some comfortable joggers and one of his button ups. Then, wrapped a towel around your neck and over your shoulders. You crouched down, head over the edge of the tub as Lando started the shower. Making sure the water was at the right temperature before beginning to wash away the grease and grime of the past week. Chuckling as you melted into his hand.
Once your hair was adequately soaked, he turned the shower off, let the head fall into the bath and grabbed the shampoo. He lathered, rinsed, then done the same with conditioner. He then squeezed some of the water out your hair before you sat up, drying it for you and chuckled when he pulled the towel away. Hair sticking up every which way. “My handsome man..” he mumbled, pressing a gentle kiss to your lips which you happily accepted. Hand dropping to his waist.

You smiled wide. “Here I am.” You spoke walking over to him. Turning in a circle as you went. “You like?”
“Oh baby I love..” the other whispered, blushing when a kiss was pressed to his cheek. Wrapping his arms around your waist, he nuzzled into your neck. Now your turn to hold him. And you certainly wouldn’t complain. “Love you..” you heard a mutter into your shoulder.
You smiled back, pressing a gentle kiss to his shoulder with a “Love you most..”

Wow! 👏👏👏 JDEadonWriter on X, put this amazing post out today. Check this out!
Are Meghan Markle's kids FAKE? 🤔
Megnant
1 Size: Bump drastically altering in size, even in a single day 😯
2 Slip: Bump slipped down to her knees in Birkenhead, UK 😯
3 Wobble: Bump wobbled side-to-side as she crossed the street. 😯
4 Clutching: Supporting her bump with her hands overly often. 🤔
5 Popping: audibly popped in a video, and wafted her clothes😯
6 Shape: Bump unnaturally shaped on Netflix🤔
7 Straps: Moonbump straps outlines visible under clothing in several photos. And something snapped, impacting the clothing fabric (video of H&M in London)😯
8 Biology: An absence of swelling of ankles, and other subtle biological (non)signs.🤔
9 Holding: Carrying a (doll?) infant on her bump, instead of on her hip.🤔
10 Squats: Squatting, effortlessly, with her knees together in videos and photos. In heels.😯
Births
11 Announcements: Royal official birth announcements are indirect. One states they are delighted "by the news of the" (not by the actual) birth.🤔
12 Coverup? A medic who certified a birth closed down her practice shortly afterwards.😯
13 Certificates: Questions linger over the birth certificates signatures, etc.🤔
14 Leak: An official Royal twitter account tweet indicated that Meghan’s kids are fake, before being taken down. An innocent prank?😁
15 Recovery: Epidural (ouch!) birth in a bath description anomalies and arriving home too soon afterwards to be quite plausible.🤔
16 Born Of Body?: Meghan allegedly told a friend she was infertile, when at college, and there was a reported alleged hysterectomy before the births.
17 Silence: Meghan is silent on her claimed births, despite always flashing her bump; having a "Capacity for over sharing"; boasting about being a “Mom”, and always talking about herself (apparently) on her feminist podcast. 🤔
Rented Infants
18 Archie Model: The real parents of the infant predominantly shown in Archie photos are identified. 💥
19 Lilibet Model: Parents of the infant shown in Lilibet photos are identified.💥
20 Loan: Mother of “Lilibet” commented on Insta that she does not "loan" her daughter to Meghan any longer.😯
21 Shape-Shifting: Different infants used in photos of both Archie and Lilibet.😯
22 Photoshopping: A litany of incompetently-photoshopped “family” photos. (A huge topic in itself).🤔
Dolls
23 Reborn Doll: Seemingly cradling a doll (a product called Darren) in official photo of Archie 🪆
24 Party Doll: Meghan seemingly cradled a similar doll when gate-crashing a polo match party, begetting astonished looks.😯
25 Bumpy Ride: Meghan seemed to be lugging an inanimate doll on top of her bump through some woods in Canada. Whilst grinning at a hired pap.🪆
26 Twisted: In one photograph, Archie's head is twisted more than 90 degrees 🪆
27 Carrying: A high % of photographs show them carrying the “kids” 🪆
28 Backs-Turned: A high % of Photos are of kids facing away from the camera 🤔
Other Oddities
29 Website: A startling absence of updates of Royal website on Meghan’s offspring.🤔
30 Bishop: Los Angeles christening cleric was not the official Bishop the Harkles claimed he was.🤔
31 Implausible Platitudes: Claiming Archie’s first word was “Crocodile”, and that he demands a Leica camera for his birthday. As tots do...🤔
32 Merch: An uncharacteristic unwillingness to merchandise their kids, for $$$ or PR.🤔
33 Invisible: The Harkles are never seen with their kids. There are hints of "home schooling" (will they ever be allowed out?)😯
34 Family Holidays: Weirdly, the Harkles never take their kids on holiday, and, if they pretend they did, they incompetently photoshop them into pap snaps on Insta.🤔
35 Everything Else: All the stuff I overlooked in this hastily speed-typed list.🤔
🤔🤔🤔
Why does it matter? 🤔
Because rich Prince Harry wants we skint, long-suffering tax payers, to pay for his security expenses; he’s a traitor, and, well, it’s fraud, isn’t it? 💥
Feel free to leave evidence I missed out in the comments. 👍

An NHS Trust is investigating accusations that pro-Palestine nurses denied a nine-year-old Jewish boy care.
Elliott Smus, who is based in Tel Aviv, Israel, wrote on LinkedIn on Wednesday about an alleged incident at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital involving his young nephew, who suffers from a rare blood disorder.
Mr Smus said that his nephew, who has suffered with his condition for most of his life, requires a blood transfusion every month or two, spending up to days in hospital for treatment.
He said that his nephew is from a religious Jewish family and wears a kippah and tzitzit, clothing typically worn by orthodox Jewish males.
But he claimed that the child was “kicked out of his bay” by nurses wearing “Free Palestine” badges and forced “to lie on the floor with a canula in”.
As a result, Mr Smus said that his nephew is now scared that if he wears clothing that identifies him as visibly Jewish, he will not receive treatment.
Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust has launched an investigation.
Incident was ‘horrendous’
Countdown presenter Rachel Riley, who is Jewish, described the alleged incident as “horrendous” and called on Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester, and the NHS to investigate “with urgency”.

Mr Smus, who has been contacted for comment, said on social media: “As a religious Jewish family, my nephew wears his black kippah (yamulka, religious hat whatever you want to call it) and his tzitzit proudly.
“Not today. Why you ask? The nurses (NHS employees) are all walking around wearing “Free Palestine” pins and he was scared.
“Beyond that, the last few times he went in he was denied correct medical care by the same couple of nurses every time.
“This culminated the last time he went in, when my visibly Jewish nine-year-old nephew, with an autoimmune blood disease was kicked out of his bay by one of the nurses who was covered in pro-Palestine badges and stickers, and had to lie on the floor with a canula in.
“Now the damage is done and my proudly Jewish nephew (and his parents) is scared to not get treatment if he wears his kippah and tzitzit.
“Coincidentally, today when not visibly Jewish, he received quick care. Also worth noting, prior to the conflict he received excellent care.
“It is terrifying to be a Jew in the world again.”
Anti-Semitism at all-time high
The Community Security Trust, which records anti-Semitic incidents in the UK, said that anti-Semitism hit an all-time high in 2023 in an “explosion of hatred” following the Hamas terror attacks on Israel.
The charity said the surge in anti-Jewish attacks, threats and abuse amounted to a “celebration” of Hamas’s Oct 7 massacre by anti-Semites whose own hatred was fuelled by the brutality of the attacks.
Its annual report said that there were 4,103 anti-Semitic incidents in the UK in 2023, nearly double the previous record in 2021, covering all types of “hate” against Jewish people.
Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust said: “We are aware of images and very serious claims which are circulating on social media.
“We are rapidly investigating these to establish the situation and are discussing them with the family involved. Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital is committed to providing high-quality care to all patients.”
Mr Burnham said: “I have seen the troubling reports shared on social media and have asked the Royal Children’s Hospital to launch an urgent investigation. No one should feel treated differently in our hospitals because of their race or religion. I’ve asked the hospital management to provide regular updates as they gather the facts.”
==
The "be kind" "right side of history."
Let's put aside for a moment that it's unethical for medical professionals to be wearing political paraphernalia of any variety.
Whether or not the accusation is true, literally nobody doubts that people who are pro-Hamas and support Islamic terrorism are completely capable of this kind of atrocity.

A quick introduction to 1940’s fashion
I've been so obsessed with Band of Brothers recently and I love reading the fanfics. Here’s my contribution, for your OC's.
(soon!) Part 2. Hair, makeup etc
(soon!) 1940's lookbook (photos)
The war had a major impact on 40's fashion. There were shortages and rations, and women were entering the workforce as men went off to war, leading to a more simplistic, utilitarian style.

Rations and regulations:
In the UK, clothing was rationed from June, 1941 to March, 1949, in varying strictness. So although you still payed for clothing with money, you'd need coupons to be allowed to buy them altogether. In the US, the Regulation L-85 (1942), rationed natural fibers and restricted how clothing could be made in order to save fabric. This meant regulating the skirt length, the fullness of pants and jackets, and even banned cuffs.
Silhouette:
The early 40's silhouette had strong, boxy shoulders, but by the mid forties and as the restrictions grew more strict, the silhouette softened to save materials. A nipped-in and high waistline stayed popular for the whole decade, and a hemline below the knee was fashionable until 1947, when Dior came out with the "New Look".

Fashion:
Because restrictions and shortages, the look was simple but stylish. Showy, over the top clothing was considered unfashionable to wear in wartime Britain.
The "military style" bled into every day fashion. It was common for men, who were not on active duty, to still wear bomber jackets, trench coats and aviator glasses. It's visible on women's fashion as well, which is why some of the clothing have a sort of a uniformly look.
Popular outfits for women were square-shouldered jackets with matching A-line skirts, shirtwaist dresses, and thanks to actresses, pants were now also a stable part of women's wardrobes. The pants had wide, straight legs and high waists, and were often paired with a colorful blouse or sweater and a matching jacket.
Hand knitting in Britain was at peak popularity during the war. Women on the home front were encouraged to "knit your bit" and contribute to the war effort by knitting for the troops. The warmth of woollen items also made knitwear popular for civilians.

Working women:
Women were entering the workforce to replace men, who went off to war. This required more practical attire, such as sturdy shoes, head scarves, overalls etc.
Some jobs (such as the WAVES) felt it important to emphasize that women wouldn't become any less feminine by working or wearing a uniform. This is why makeup, nail polish and feminine hairstyles weren't just largely allowed, they were encouraged.
Actress Veronica Lake, famous of her highly imitated "Peek-a-boo" hairstyle, where her hair covers one of her eyes, encouraged women working in factories to tie their hair up into safer styles to avoid injury. In this Safety Styles video, she has her hair up in a "victory roll" style.
The New Look by Dior:
After the long war, and as life was slowly returning back to normal, there was a want of "returning to femininity" among women. At the same time, some women feared that this ultra-femininity would set back all the progress they had made working outside the home during the war.
In 1947, Christian Dior released a new collection called ”The New Look” which featured a full, calf-length skirt. After the simple lines of the utility clothing, such a dress seemed desirable by contrast. The full skirt was also controversial for how much fabric it used, since rationing in the UK wouldn't end for another two years and there were still material shortages in both UK and the US.
Despite the controversies, the New Look was hugely popular and became the predominant silhouette well into the 1950's.

A/N: To keep this short, I had to paste and delete like half of what this originally was onto part 2. Also, lmk if there's interest in men's fashion ver. of this!
Hopefully this was legible. All the ”not my first language blah blah” stuff <3

Quick and simple t-shirt mod
My Subspecies shirt arrived, and thankfully its a good quality one, not a dropshipper or an Ali Express resell. It actually despatched from the UK in spite of the pricing being in dollars, so I think it might be print to order and they just send the order to a printer in whatever country the customer is in. Link for the site here, they have a few other horror shirts but seem to mostly sell merch for the Australian extreme metal band, Portal - I would highly recommend this band to anyone who likes bizarre, avant-garde, experimental or just fucking weird extreme music.
Anyway, I almost always mod my shirts to make them a little more interesting. I crop them because although I'm pretty slim I have hyperlordosis (a slight inward spinal curvature) that makes certain clothing including long shirts look really unflattering on me. If I crop a shirt to my natural waist it looks way better, though sometimes if the design is large I have to make a decision between losing part of it, or having it look unflattering. Not a problem with this one thankfully, the design is printed pretty high on the shirt.
I also usually cut out the neck and cut the sleeves off. Partially to show more of my tattoos but also because I prefer the way it looks. If I leave the sleeves on it, it tends to be a skinny-fit shirt.
After that I would usually cut and weave the sides or the back (there are many tutorials for different ways to do this online), but for this shirt I had the idea to add eyelets and laces. The shoulder stitching tends to come undone when you cut out the neck and sleeves of a t shirt so I needed some way of securing that part back together anyway, and they're nice and visible there.

Eyelets are cheap, and inserting them is super easy - just make a hole with something sharp. Though I have a leather punch, for this kind of thin stretchy fabric I usually use my scratch awl, but you can easily do it with scissors. Eyelets come in a pack with a tool for setting them in place, and you need a hammer to hit them a few times. Make sure you're on a very sturdy surface as you need plenty of resistance to get them nice and secure. A concrete floor is best.
I just folded the fabric in half to get the middle ones in the right spot but you can measure the spacing if you have more to put in.
I had boot laces to hand because I always save them if I get rid of a pair of old boots, but you could use pretty much anything you have available- ribbon, lace, even long strips of the t shirt fabric that you cut off.
I laced them up, tied them very tightly and then covered the knots in fabric glue to make sure they don't come undone. Then I trimmed them to the right length, and as they're synthetic (so, plastic) I used a lighter to melt the ends slightly to make sure they won't fray.
I had the bright idea to also singe the knots, forgetting of course that the glue would be flammable so the whole knot caught fire, but thankfully I reacted quick and blew it out straight away! At least they're very unlikely to come undone now, but please be extremely careful if you choose to do anything involving a naked flame!
I was going to add more eyelets down the sides to make it tighter, but I don't have enough left, and actually it's fairly tight already. I also may do something to the back as there's no print there and it looks a little plain, but for now I'm very happy with this.

Elevate Your Ride: The Latest Trends in Motorcycle Clothing
Motorcycling isn't just a mode of transportation; it's a lifestyle, an adventure, and a statement of freedom. And when it comes to hitting the open road, one factor stands out as both practical and fashionable: motorcycle clothing. Beyond being a style statement, the right gear is a crucial aspect of ensuring safety and comfort while riding.
The Evolution of Motorcycle Clothing: Gone are the days when motorcyclists had to choose between safety and style. Today, the motorcycle clothing industry has undergone a remarkable evolution, driven by advancements in material technology, design innovation, and an increasing awareness of safety.

1. Protective Gear as a Priority: Safety always takes precedence when it comes to motorcycle clothing. Modern protective gear is engineered to provide a high level of impact resistance and abrasion protection. From armored jackets and pants to gloves and boots, every piece of gear is designed to shield riders from potential injuries.
2. Fashion Meets Functionality: The beauty of contemporary motorcycle clothing lies in its ability to seamlessly blend fashion with functionality. Riders can now choose from a diverse range of styles that cater to various tastes. Whether you prefer the rugged look of leather jackets or the sleek aesthetics of textile gear, there's something for everyone.
3. Advanced Materials for Enhanced Performance: Innovative materials like Kevlar, Gore-Tex, and Cordura have revolutionized motorcycle clothing. These materials offer enhanced durability, weather resistance, and breathability, making them ideal for long rides in varying conditions.
4. All-Weather Adaptability: Riders are no longer limited by weather conditions. Waterproof and breathable membranes integrated into clothing keep riders dry during unexpected rain showers. Similarly, thermal liners can be added for warmth during colder seasons.
5. Customization and Personalization: Motorcycle clothing isn't one-size-fits-all anymore. Many brands offer customization options, allowing riders to choose the color, design, and even incorporate personalized patches or logos. This personal touch adds an element of individuality to every piece.
6. Tech Integration: With the rise of wearable technology, motorcycle clothing has embraced this trend too. Some jackets come with built-in airbag systems that inflate upon impact, offering an additional layer of protection. Others integrate technology for improved visibility, with LED lights and reflective materials.
7. Community and Identity: Wearing motorcycle clothing is more than just putting on gear; it's a way of belonging to a community. Riders often display patches, pins, and insignias that signify their association with particular groups or clubs. This sense of identity adds depth to the clothing's significance.
8. Embracing Sustainable Practices: The motorcycle clothing industry is becoming increasingly conscious of environmental impact. Brands are exploring sustainable materials and production processes to create gear that's eco-friendly without compromising on quality.

Micro Trends: The Life and Times
Micro trends in fashion have played a significant role in shaping the ever-evolving landscape of style and personal expression. These, often fleeting and niche, reflect the nature of fashion as it revolves around cultural shifts, technological advancements, and individual desires. Today, we will delve into the history of micro trends in fashion, exploring their origins, influences, and impacts on the industry and society.
Micro trends, not just in fashion, can be traced back to various periods throughout time where subcultures and, in general, smaller communities started to adopt distinct styles. One of the earliest examples was in the 50s and 60s, with the emergence of the "Teddy Boys" in the UK and the "Beatniks" in the United States. These showcased how fashion was becoming a means of self-expression and group identity. These early micro trends were characterized by specific clothing items like slim-cut suits and leather jackets, reflecting rebellion against societal norms and societal standards at the time.
However, it was during the 1980s that micro trends began to gain more recognition and visibility. This was largely due to the rise of global interconnectedness brought about by various media. Subcultures like the "Punks," "Goths," and "New Romantics" were able to reach a broader audience, and their unique fashion choices, including ripped clothing, heavy makeup, and flamboyant accessories, became emblematic of their respective movements.
The dawn of the internet age in the 1990s further accelerated the spread of micro trends in fashion. Online forums, chat rooms, and later social media platforms allowed individuals to connect and share ideas with like-minded people from around the world. This facilitated the rapid dissemination of micro trends, often driven by individual influencers rather than traditional fashion houses. The term "hipster" gained prominence during this time, referring to individuals who embraced counter-cultural styles that were often marked by vintage clothing, eclectic accessories, and a sense of irony.
As the 21st century progressed, micro trends continued to emerge and evolve at an unprecedented pace. The advent of platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and fashion blogs created a new breed of influencers who could spark trends with a single post. Items like the "dad sneaker" and the "bucket hat" gained cult followings and became emblematic of a new wave of fashion enthusiasm driven by young consumers seeking individuality within a hyper-connected world.
One key aspect of micro trends is their tendency to blur gender lines and challenge traditional notions of masculinity and femininity. The "gender-neutral" and "androgynous" aesthetics gained traction as individuals sought to break free from restrictive gender norms. Fashion became a means of expressing one's true self, regardless of societal expectations.
The sustainability movement also began influencing micro trends, with consumers showing increasing interest in eco-friendly and ethical fashion choices. "Slow fashion," characterized by durable, timeless pieces that contrasted with the fast-paced nature of fast fashion, gained momentum. Items like second-hand clothing, upcycled garments, and ethically produced accessories became not only fashion statements but also statements about one's values.
Micro trends in fashion have had a profound impact on the broader fashion industry as well. High-end designers and fashion houses started taking cues from street style and micro trends, incorporating elements of these niche styles into their collections. The democratization of fashion was evident as runway trends were translated into more accessible versions for the mass market.
In conclusion, the history of micro trends in fashion reflects the ever-changing nature of style, culture, and society. From their early origins within subcultures to their contemporary prominence in the age of social media, micro trends have pushed boundaries, celebrated individuality, and challenged conventional norms. These trends are a testament to the power of fashion as a form of self-expression and a reflection of the broader shifts in our world.

What went wrong with Depop
I remember the first items I bought on Depop. It was back in 2017, actually before I had developed an interest in sustainability. I had just dropped out of university and was working part-time at a local pub. It wasn’t a great time in my life to say the least.
It became a bit of an outlet. For a shopaholic like me, branded items being sold for a fraction of their original price was a no-brainer, and was pivotal in getting me over my aversion to second-hand clothing.
I would see items in shops and think to myself “I’ll just wait six months and buy it for cheap on Depop”. It’s how I got my Topshop Hurricane snake print boots. It saved my hide when I bought some ASOS shoes in the wrong size and then they ran out of the right size, only to stumble across them later on the app.
I didn’t just use it to purchase high street items; Depop was the first time I dipped my toes into the waters of vintage clothing and I found some real bargains on there (although the stench of stale cigarette smoke on the floral maxi skirt I ordered still remains in my nostrils to this day). I found a genuine leather white mini skirt and a Burberry trench (although perhaps that should be third-hand as the seller had purchased it from a vintage clothing store).
I personally never sold on Depop, as I found it was only really the sellers who committed to selling their items (and usually keeping a steady flow of new stock) or those whose items adhered to a tightly curated aesthetic. The layout of Depop is very similar to that of Instagram, and having items in the same style, colour or brand is pleasing to the eye and increases the likelihood of shoppers following the seller (and thus receiving notifications of new items to sell). This approach was much more successful than the sellers with eclectic mix that honestly represented the cast-offs of their wardrobe. Many of the items I bought were a casual seller’s first ever sale, despite usually having around a dozen on offer.
This was not a problem in the beginning- at least not from a shopper’s perspective anyway. But it was a sign of troubles to come.
Those who realised there was money to be made by reselling second-hand items sourced from charity shops (not an inherently wrong thing in my opinion, but a somewhat controversial in sustainability circles online due to the allegation that this denies low-cost clothing to those in a local community who most need it) went into overdrive, hiking up their prices.
The magic word was ‘y2k’, a banner under which anything could be sold for £20 and above, creeping close to the original RRP or sometimes surpassing it!
The app became increasingly challenging to navigate. For maximum visibility sellers would list just a blurb of tags regardless of whether they were relevant; a Topshop skirt manufactured and sold in 2013 could simultaneously be tagged ’90s’ and ’00s’ when the skirt itself frankly bore no resemblance to the clothing of either decade. Brand names would just be used for the sake of increasing their chances of appearing in search results. The rise of even faster fashion brands in the late 2010s became increasingly omnipresent, lowering the overall quality of the items on sale.
So when Vinted launched in the UK, I immediately signed up. At the initial stage the app was pretty glitchy; it would only show a few dozen items and then was unable to download more and at one point was entirely in French. But it soon came to find its footing and since then has firmly established itself amongst young people in the UK. I erroneously assumed that Vinted was a relatively new company, but actually it was founded in Lithuania in 2008 and has since expanded into over a dozen other countries.
It would be fantasy to pretend that Vinted is a shining city on the hill- Shein and its ilk are arguably just as prevalent as they are on Depop (with the small caveat that sellers aren’t charging nearly as much) but its search engine and filters are much better than Depop’s. The layout of the website and the range of items sold bear more resemblance to the early days of eBay (before it became an Amazon copycat dominated by mass-produced new items sold by large companies). I also suspect it will follow a similar trajectory to Depop, starting out as a cheap, sustainable and user-friendly platform that is ultimately undone by its popularity, with sellers asking for unreasonable items for low-quality products leading to a migration to whatever new reselling platform senses an opportunity. But for now, I enjoy Vinted as much as I once did Depop (and perhaps more than is good for my bank account).

Essential Bike Riding Tips for Teenagers
Riding a bike is an exciting milestone for many teenagers, offering a sense of freedom and independence. However, it comes with serious responsibilities. Proper preparation and safety awareness are essential to ensure a safe and enjoyable riding experience. From having the right documentation to understanding the importance of a comprehensive bike insurance policy, this guide covers everything teenage riders need to know.
Tips for Teenagers Riding a Two-Wheeler
1) Correct Driving Licence
Before hitting the road, teenagers must ensure they have a valid driving licence appropriate for their age and vehicle type. In the UK, 16-year-olds can legally ride mopeds or motorcycles with a 50cc engine or less after completing their CBT (Compulsory Basic Training). Driving without a proper licence is not only illegal but also compromises safety.
2) Practice Makes Perfect
Confidence on the road comes with consistent practice. Start with less congested areas to get a feel for the bike’s controls and handling. Gradual exposure to more challenging traffic conditions ensures better control and reaction times.
3) Ride Safe
Always prioritise safety while riding. Wear a certified helmet, protective gear, and visible clothing to reduce the risk of injury in case of an accident. Remember, safe riding not only protects you but also builds trust with other road users.
4) Follow Rules
Traffic rules are designed to keep all road users safe. Abiding by speed limits, using indicators, and respecting pedestrian crossings are non-negotiable for teenage riders. Following rules also helps avoid fines and legal complications.

Comprehensive bike insurance is a reliable choice as it provides extensive coverage, ensuring peace of mind. Things to Keep in Mind While Riding a Bike
1) Pick a Compatible Bike
Choosing a bike that matches your skill level and physical capabilities is essential. A lightweight, easy-to-handle bike is ideal for teenagers. Avoid opting for powerful motorcycles that may be challenging to control.
2) Keep Documents Handy
Always carry essential documents like your driving licence, bike registration papers, and insurance details. If you’ve purchased your bike insurance online, the digital copy sent via email is a valid document.
3) Be Alert
Stay aware of your surroundings at all times. Watch out for sudden movements from other vehicles, pedestrians, or animals. Avoid distractions and maintain focus on the road.
4) Maintain Speed Limit
Speeding is a major cause of road accidents. Stick to the designated speed limits and adjust your speed based on road conditions, weather, and traffic.
5) Proper Maintenance
Routine bike maintenance ensures optimal performance and prevents breakdowns. Regularly check tyre pressure, brakes, lights, and engine oil levels to keep your bike in top condition.

Things to Avoid While Riding a Bike
1) Riding Without Helmet
A helmet is a lifesaver and a legal requirement. Riding without one increases the risk of severe head injuries in an accident. Invest in a high-quality helmet that fits snugly and meets safety standards.
2) Performing Stunts or Tricks
Stunt riding may seem thrilling but is extremely dangerous, especially for inexperienced riders. Such activities endanger not just the rider but also others on the road.
3) Uncomfortable Footwear
Wearing inappropriate footwear, such as sandals or flip-flops, can hinder bike control. Opt for sturdy shoes that provide grip and ankle support.
4) Drinking and Riding
Alcohol impairs judgement and reaction time, making it unsafe to ride. Even small amounts can lead to accidents. Never drink and ride under any circumstances.
5) Texting or Calling While Riding
Using a phone while riding diverts your attention and increases the likelihood of accidents. If you must take a call or reply to a text, pull over safely before doing so.

How to Prepare for a Safe Career in the Construction Industry
The construction industry is one of the most rewarding yet hasardous fields to work in. Every year, thousands of construction workers face injuries due to unsafe practices, lack of proper training, or failure to follow safety regulations. If you are looking to build a career in this industry, prioritising safety from day one is crucial. This guide will provide valuable insights into how you can prepare for a safe and successful career in construction.

Understanding the Importance of Construction Safety
Construction sites present numerous risks, including falls, exposure to harmful substances, heavy machinery accidents, and electrocution. According to occupational safety reports, the construction industry accounts for a significant percentage of workplace fatalities worldwide. However, many of these incidents are preventable with the right knowledge, preparation, and adherence to safety regulations.
1. Obtain the Necessary Training and Certifications
Before stepping onto a construction site, you must undergo proper training. Many countries and states require specific certifications to work legally in the industry. Here are some essential certifications:
White Card (Australia): Required for anyone working in the construction sector.
OSHA Certification (USA): The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) offers 10-hour and 30-hour safety training courses.
CSCS Card (UK): The Construction Skills Certification Scheme ensures workers have the necessary skills and knowledge.
First Aid and CPR Certification: A crucial certification that can help save lives in case of emergencies.
Completing these courses will not only help you comply with legal requirements but also equip you with vital safety knowledge.
2. Learn About Common Construction Hasards
Being aware of potential hasards can help you take proactive measures to prevent accidents. Some common risks on construction sites include:
Falls from Heights: One of the leading causes of workplace injuries. Proper use of harnesses, guardrails, and scaffolding is essential.
Electrical Hasards: Live wires, faulty equipment, and improper grounding can result in electrocution.
Heavy Machinery Accidents: Workers must be trained in handling equipment like forklifts, cranes, and bulldosers.
Slips, Trips, and Falls: Keeping the workplace clean and free from obstructions minimises these risks.
Exposure to Hasardous Materials: Chemicals, asbestos, and dust particles can lead to long-term health issues.
3. Wear the Right Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
PPE is a fundamental requirement for construction workers. The right protective gear can significantly reduce injury risks. Essential PPE includes:
Helmet: Protects against head injuries from falling objects.
Safety Glasses: Shields eyes from dust, debris, and chemical exposure.
High-Visibility Clothing: Ensures workers are seen by equipment operators.
Gloves: Protects hands from cuts, burns, and chemical exposure.
Steel-Toe Boots: Provides foot protection from heavy objects and punctures.
Hearing Protection: Earplugs or earmuffs are necessary in noisy environments.
Employers must provide PPE, but as a worker, you should ensure it is well-maintained and used correctly.
4. Understand and Follow Safety Protocols
Construction sites have strict safety rules to prevent accidents. Following these protocols is essential:
Follow Site Safety Inductions: Every construction site has its own set of safety rules. Always attend safety briefings.
Report Hasards Immediately: If you notice unsafe conditions, inform your supervisor to prevent accidents.
Follow Lockout/Tagout Procedures: Ensures that machinery is properly shut off before maintenance.
Stay Alert and Avoid Distractions: Using phones or listening to music on-site can increase accident risks.
5. Maintain Physical Fitness and Health
Construction work is physically demanding. Maintaining good health and fitness helps prevent injuries and improves performance. Consider these tips:
Exercise Regularly: Strength training and flexibility exercises reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injuries.
Stay Hydrated: Dehydration can lead to dissiness and heat exhaustion, especially in hot weather.
Eat a Balanced Diet: Proper nutrition supports energy levels and recovery.
Get Enough Rest: Fatigue increases the likelihood of mistakes and accidents.
6. Develop Strong Communication Skills
Clear communication on a construction site can prevent many accidents. Workers should:
Use Hand Signals: Essential for communicating with heavy equipment operators.
Follow Radio Protocols: Two-way radios are commonly used for site-wide communication.
Clarify Instructions: If unsure about a task, always ask for clarification.
Report Unsafe Practices: Speak up if you see a coworker engaging in unsafe behavior.
7. Stay Updated with Industry Regulations
Construction safety regulations frequently change. Staying informed about new safety standards and best practices is vital. Here’s how:
Attend Safety Workshops and Training: Many organisations offer regular safety training sessions.
Follow Industry Publications: Magasines, blogs, and government websites provide updates on regulations.
Participate in Safety Meetings: Toolbox talks and site meetings often discuss new safety protocols.
8. Choose Employers Who Prioritise Safety
Not all construction companies have the same safety standards. When seeking employment, look for companies with strong safety records and commitments to worker protection. Indicators of a safety-conscious employer include:
Regular Safety Training: Ensures all employees are updated on safety procedures.
Provision of Quality PPE: Indicates a commitment to worker well-being.
Compliance with Regulations: Employers should strictly follow national and local safety laws.
Conclusion
A career in the construction industry can be fulfilling and financially rewarding, but safety should always be a top priority. By obtaining the necessary training, wearing appropriate PPE, following safety protocols, and staying informed about industry regulations, you can ensure a long and injury-free career. Remember, safety starts with you—make it a habit from day one.
